” I never want to go back”
..is what I thought as I as handed in my resignation in my very well paid office job in the city.
2 years ago, I made the decision to leave a job I had been in for 5 years and venture into the world of working from home.
Having a family that relied on my financial support, it was hard to justify leaving a job that paid well for this new “money making” venture.
Although it was slow at first, I have never looked back and truly believe in the side hustles that brought me to the place I am now.
I’d like to think of myself as an expert in all 3 of these side hustles because I have combined all of them to catapult my entrepreneurial career.
I’d like to share the exact side jobs, I used, to make money working from home. The great thing about these is that you can get started now with virtually non existent upfront costs.
The only prerequisite is that these jobs require dedication but if you stick with it the rewards are huge!
Put in the work now and watch the hard work pay off, not so far, down the line.
Let’s go!

1. Selling Digital Products
With previous experience in Graphic Design, it made sense for me to start selling digital products online.
I began creating logos, banners and templates.
However nowadays you don’t need to have any experience when it comes to creating digital products online.
There are an infinite amount of type of digital products you could sell.
Not only are the potential profits huge with digital products but you won’t have to deal with the hassles of shipping, inventory and product defects.
The great thing about digital products is you would put in all the work upfront and reap rewards from the reoccurring income. Making money passively.
You need to have a concrete strategy.
Types of digital products you could sell:
Ebooks
Thanks to services like Amazon Kindle Publishing it has never been easier to self publish your own book.
Amazon lets you keep up to 70% of all book sales in countries all over and allows you to set your own price!
Depending on your niche, there are various types of ebooks you’re able to offer.
For example, if you’re in the fitness niche, you could promote an ebook with a detailed Keto 7 day meal plan.
Start to brainstorm ideas within your niche. you could use Answer the Public for questions people are asking on a specific topic.
The beauty of eBooks is that you are able to educate or advise. Eventually you’ll able to create your own blog or website and sell the books on there.
Courses
The online education industry is booming in 2020 and is only set to grow!
People are turning towards learning resources on the web and you could potentially profit from it.
Platforms such as Skillshare allow content creators (like you) to share their knowledge on a specific topic over the internet.
Services
If you have a specific skill, you are able to offer it up as a service and make money.
As I mentioned, creating banners and logos was one of the ways I earned extra cash on Fiverr. It came easy to me because I already had a background in graphic design.
However there are so many other skills you could offer, especially on websites such as Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer.com or People Per Hour. You could even create your own website dedicated to selling these services. Skilled services include:
- Write articles or blog posts
- Write catchy product descriptions
- SEO help
- Turn photos into portraits
- Design logos, banners, e-book covers
- Design business cards
- Edit/retouch images
- Create a video review of product
- Create a video using/displaying a product
- Translation
The sky is the limit here! If you have a few skills, why not offer more than one service and increase the chance of more buyers.
Templates
People are always on the look out for templates to use for their business, work and home life.
Take WordPress themes for instance. When I was starting my website, I paid $99 for my theme which was pre-designed. Trust me on this one, people are willing to pay for services they know will save them time and effort.
That’s where you step in.
Ask yourself: what skills do you have?
You could create Design files, WordPress themes, landing page templates or plug-ins.
You could even create Canva templates to such as these:
If you don’t feel creative, you could instead pay somebody to create the templates for you. Then you would list it on your own website, on Fiverr, Creative Market or Etsy.
What a great little money earner!
Subscription services
The earning potential of a subscription or membership based service is huge!
As long as you keep providing value to your customer, you have a steady stream of income coming in every month.
Think about getting 100 customers to each pay $20 a month, that’s $2000 every month from content that took a few days to make.
The great thing about a digital membership service is you won’t have any inventory issues and can get started for very low costs.
Customers are committing to you creating and publishing more content each week, month or year. The more content you create the more attractive membership will become to new customers.
Small examples of just what you could create are:
- Fitness programs
- Elearning (music, cooking, tutorials etc)
- A Podcast

2. Blogging
Blogging is near and dear to my heart because it has allowed me to generate a consistent full time income for over a year now!
Starting a blog couldn’t be easier now with all of the resources and step by step guides, including this guide on starting a money making blog here..
There isn’t one subject you couldn’t start a blog about, especially in 2020.
The trick to making money from your blog is to pick a subject that has longevity and that you know is profitable.
Picking the niche is the trickiest part because everything you do from that point on will determine how much money you could make.
You could be really passionate about a topic, but it doesn’t AT ALL mean you’ll make money from it.
Start with something you have an interest in and then follow that up with the research to prove this topic will make you money.
Learn more about picking the right niche for your blog.
Blogging is a fantastic way to earn extra cash online from the comfort of your own home.
What’s even better is you can get started for as low as $4.30 per month.
Namehero is my number 1 recommended hosting provider. They have become increasingly popular in the blogging community and with good reason!
I was previously signed up to Siteground, but since moving to Namehero my website loads a lot quicker and I have my downtime has drastically reduced!
Plus if you’re receiving a lot of monthly visitors to your site, you want a hosting plan that can handle it.
You can set up your very own blog in today for as little as $4.30 a month with Namehero with their Starter Cloud Plan, which is all you need if you’re just starting out.
Plus you’ll get a FREE domain on their 2 year plan.
They also offer a one click WordPress set up (you need to have a WordPress site), this just makes the process so much easier.
Making money from you blog can be accomplished in several ways but by far my favourite way is Affiliate Marketing.
Affiliate Marketing is a great way to make money blogging because you don’t need a crazy amount of visitors each month.
All you need is two or 3 great products within you niche, you use yourself and would be happy to recommend.

3. Print on Demand Store
This is a fantastic business model because you could virtually get started from zero all the way up to $5k a month, with minimal effort.
Print on demand is the process of creating and then printing customized designs based on the customers requirements and selling it under your own brand.
The concept it essentially printing after you receive the demand.
Once the customer sees the item on your site and purchases,
You could have a relatively hands off approach because you are not in charge of stocking the goods or even getting them printed!
For example, you would create design for and list of range of canvases just like these:
The customer would then come onto your website and select which print most suits them and purchase.
You would then submit the order to the manufacturer and they would send the product directly to the customer.
Your involvement would be in getting traffic to your site, creating the design and submitting the orders.
Getting traffic to your site
The great thing about starting your own Print on Demand store with a platform like Shopify is you are able to keep all profits, the customers are yours and the scalability is a lot higher.
When customers purchase from your own store, they are your customers for life!
You can then send them offers via Email and invite them to check out new designs over and over again.
As apposed to uploading your designs to print on demand sites such as Teespring, RedBubble and Etsy. the customers don’t belong to you and you have no opportunity to reconnect with them.
However doing this is a great way to dip your foot in the POD pool and it’s FREE!
With sites like Teespring, you are able to fully integrate with the print on demand suppliers within the click of a mouse.
The benefits to this are:
- You can list your product for completely free!
- The traffic is brought to you, no need to pay for traffic ads
- Customer service is handled via Teespring
- No need to submit the orders, they will do this for you
Creating designs
It helps if you have an idea of the designs you’d like to create or even if you have a background in design.
However, if you don’t, you could sign up to Fiverr, purchase low costs designs and upload them.
When you’re ready to set up your Print on Demand store, consider using Shopify, who are offering a FREE 14 day Trial and by far have the best integration with all print on demand stores!
Wrapping up..
So there you go! This is my pick of the very best side jobs you could start right now to make you $5k every month.
With each of these money making side hustles you have so much potential.
With the right mix of determination and skills – you’ll be able to turn these ‘side’ jobs into a full-time career.
Good luck!
